1-2:45 Practice Ethics for CPAs in Business and Private Practice

This panel will discuss the ethical rules that apply to Certified Public Accountants that work in internal roles within a company and CPAs who work in private practice. Specifically, we will review scenarios including (1) an accountant's objectivity and independence, (2) duties to their employer, and (3) duties to third parties, and discuss how relevant ethical rules, such as the AICPA's Code of Professional Conduct, the AICPA Conceptual Framework for Members in Business and private practice, and applicable state law, guide accountants in these scenarios.

With the 2024 Legislative Session recently concluded, multiple state law changes impacting Kentucky CPAs, attorneys and businesses will be reviewed. Highlights on local, state, and federal law and regulatory amendments that affect the accounting and legal professions will be the primary topics of this session. Specifically noted is House Bill 8 from the 2024 Legislative Session which creates new statutory guidance regarding general power of appointment.
