Tax Day for individuals extended to May 17

March 18, 2021
The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service announced yesterday that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals will be extended from April 15 to May 17, 2021. This does not include estimated payments. You can view the IRS notice here. The IRS will be providing formal guidance in the coming days.

KyCPA has been working with the General Assembly to ensure Kentucky conforms to any federal tax deadline extensions. HB 321, which includes this language, has passed the House and is currently in the Senate. The General Assembly is on break as it is currently the Governor's veto period, so they will not convene to pass any additional bills until March 29th. We are working with leadership to make sure this is a priority when they return.

We will keep you updated on its progress. Please reach out to your Senator and ask them to pass HB 321. You can find your legislator here.
